| Is excess hair worrying you or
damaging your confidence? |
|
| Imagine silky smooth hair free
skin. |
|
| No more waxing, daily plucking or
shaving. |
|
| Laser hair removal turns this dream
into reality. |
|
Whether it's fine downy hair or thick dark
hair, if you have hair in places you would rather not, the
chances are you are probably waxing, plucking, threading,
bleaching, epilating, tweezing, using depilatory creams or
shaving on a regular basis! The downside with these temporary
methods is that they require a continual daily, weekly or
monthly management routine. Over a long period of time this
can prove to be costly, time consuming, and damaging to the
hair and surrounding skin.
Laser hair removal offers a long term solution to permanently
reduce unwanted hair in men and women. Here at The Skin Spa™
we can achieve up to an 85-90% reduction in most clients. Laser hair removal
treatments will leave your skin feeling smooth, soft and free
from painful in-growing hairs.
Our machine has 2 different lasers allowing us to treat
different skin tones, our laser experts will ensure you get
the treatment that is right for you, with amazing results. |

| Laser Hair Removal for Asian and
Black Skin |
|
| At The Skin Spa™ we specialise in laser hair
removal for Asian, Black and suntanned skins using the long
pulsed Nd:Yag laser. The Nd:Yag is the only FDA approved laser
for hair removal in Black skin and is considered the safest,
most effective laser available today. |
|
| How does the Nd:Yag laser work? |
|
| The long pulsed Nd:Yag laser works on a
1064nm, which is the longest wavelength of all the lasers
commonly used for hair removal, by using a longer wavelength
this decreases the melanin absorption in the
epidermis, significantly reducing the risk of epidermal damage
which is often associated with Intense Pulsed Light systems (IPL). |

| Laser Hair Removal for PCOS |
|
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, often shortened
to PCOS is a condition that affects between 10-15% of women of
reproductive age. PCOS occurs when minute harmless cysts form
on the edge of the ovaries due to a hormone imbalance. The
underlying hormone imbalance in PCOS can cause other symptoms
including excessive hair growth, as the hormones stimulate the
production of new hair follicles at a much faster rate than
those not affected by PCOS. Excessive hair growth or hirsutism
is a common side effect of PCOS. There is a range of hair
removal treatments available including waxing, bleaching,
shaving, electrolysis, plucking, depilatory creams and laser
treatments. Laser hair removal is the preferred method for
many women as the laser treatment does not interfere with any
medication or surgery. Laser hair removal treatments are
effective for women with PCOS but, because unwanted hair
growth in women is hormonally driven, until hormonal
imbalances are resolved, increased hair growth may continue.
However, laser treatment will significantly reduce the amount
of hair present and slow down re-growth. For example, women
shaving on a daily basis may find that they only require laser
treatment every few weeks with no shaving in between.
The Skin Spa™ would like to help and support women with PCOS
by offering a 20% discount on pre-paid laser hair removal
courses. To qualify you are required to provide a medical
certificate, please bring this to your consultation. |

|
| FAQs |
|
| How does it work? |
|
| Light is absorbed by the melanin. The light energy heats the pigment and
effectively disables the hair follicle without damaging the
surrounding cell. The laser is placed on the skin and the
light pulse is released, which target many follicles
simultaneously. The applicator is then moved to the
neighbouring area of the skin and the process is repeated
until the entire area is covered. |
|
| Am I suitable for treatment? |
|
| Most people are suitable for treatment. Best
results are seen with people who have lighter skin and darker
hair. Dark hair is more easily treated as it has a high
concentration of melanin. Fair hair however contains less
melanin so is harder to treat. Unfortunately grey/white hair
has no melanin therefore it cannot be treated with the laser,
you may wish to opt for
waxing as an alternative. |
|
| How does the treatment feel? |
|
| Treatment sensation varies with each
individual, most of our clients experience a mild warming
sensation on the skin. |
|
| What will I see after treatment? |
|
| During your treatment the hairs remain in the
follicles and the active hair follicles are disabled by the
heat. These hairs are shed after 1 to 3 weeks as the epidermis
renews. During this period the hairs will seem to be growing
as they are pushed out by the new epidermis. |
|
| Are there any side effects? |
|
| The skin may be red immediately after
treatment and the hair follicles may be swollen and raised but
this usually subsides within a few hours. Adverse reactions
are rare but may include a small blister or temporary
lightening or darkening of the skin. |
|
| How many treatments are
necessary? |
|
| Everyone is different and it is just not
possible to be accurate. Only hair that is actively growing is
affected, therefore multiple treatments are required. The
exact number will vary depending on where the hair is, what
has been done to the hair in the past and, of course, your
individual response. The number of treatments varies, although
typically 6 treatments or more are needed for optimum results.
For hormonal conditions, such as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)
you will require more than six treatments, as you will be
managing the hair growth. |
|
| How long does treatment take? |
|
| Treatments can take as little as 10 minutes
and up to 1 hour, depending upon the size of area being
treated. |
