Seborrhoeic Keratosis

Seborrhoeic keratosis is also known as Seborrhoeic warts. They are not infectious and are harmless growths commonly found on the skin. Seborrhoeic Keratosis gives the impression that they are “stuck on” the skin's surface, they can also look like small skin tags. They vary in size, from less than one centimetre to several centimetres and have a rough surface. They can become itchy, inflamed, and irritating. They range in colour from light brown to black and become more raised and more prominent as the years go by. They occur more often on the trunk but are also common on the head and neck. Once present, they usually stay, and new ones appear over the years.

Seborrhoeic Keratosis can be treated with IPL/Laser and Cryopen.

Treatment options will be discussed at your consultation.

Before Treatment

During Treatment

The Cryopen uses nitrous oxide, which freezes the Seborrhoeic Keratosis and kills the cells to reduce/flatten or remove. The Cryopen is ideal for treating a few or larger Seborrhoeic Keratosis.

A layer of cool gel will be applied to your skin, and then the IPL/Laser is pulsed over the Seborrhoeic Keratosis. This will reduce, flatten, or remove them from the skin’s surface. IPL/Laser is suitable for clients with many pigmented Seborrhoeic Keratosis covering the body.

After Treatment

Redness and soft swelling may occur immediately or within 24 hours.

Irritation, a mild itching, or warm sensation (like sunburn), may occur immediately or within 48 hours.

The Seborrhoeic keratosis will appear darker and may crust. Do nor exfoliate or try to remove this from your skin and leave your skin to heal after the treatment.

Make-up can be applied several hours after treatment if the skin does not feel sensitive, sore, or irritated and the skin is not broken. Remove make-up carefully with cleanser and pat dry, do not rub your skin as this will irritate it.

Avoid strenuous exercise, steam room, sauna, and hot baths for 4-5 days.

Wash and bathe as normal in a lukewarm shower, pat dry skin and apply the recommended home care products.
