Stretch Marks

Stretch marks, also called striae, are a type of scar that develops when the skin stretches or shrinks quickly. This change causes the collagen and elastin to rupture, and stretch marks show as the skin heals. Depending on your skin colour, these red, purple, pink, reddish-brown, or dark brown marks can slowly fade over the years, leaving a depression in the skin. The discolouration can be reduced, and the depressions can be smoothed and flattened using the SkinPen. This makes the stretch marks significantly less noticeable.

Before Treatment

Avoid alcohol the day before micro-needling treatments.

Do not use creams containing retinol for 72 hours.

During Treatment

A topical anaesthetic will be applied and left on your skin for 20-30 minutes to make the treatment pain-free. The SkinPen will be moved over the treatment area to create micro punctures in the skin. This removes the old, damaged collagen and stimulates the fibroblast cells to produce new collagen and elastin fibres. This will smooth out and reduce the appearance of stretch marks.

After Treatment

The skin will be red with mild swelling.

Do not touch the skin immediately after the treatment.

A tight, tender feeling and the skin may become dry and flake in the first few days. Do not pick the dry skin. Allow this to flake off naturally.

Pat dry skin after shower or bath.

Do not touch the skin unnecessarily.

Do not use perfumed, AHA or Alcohol containing products for 48 hours.

Do not go swimming or use steam rooms and saunas for 4-5 days.
